89 power steering pump

Hello every one, i need to change my power steering pump. to press the coupler with the bearing on it , do you just stand the pump vertically and press the coupler on? or will that push all of the pump inards out the bottom? thank you for your help, jerry.

any one have an idea of how to do this? i am broke down, have to drive this truck to get to work. any help is greatly appreciated . thank you, jerry.

looks like you just press is on, but don't hold me to that, do some google searches for replacement of the pump
1992 D350 CC LB 5-spd CTD, 366 GSK, Rotated Fuel Pin, Fuel Screw 1 turn off runaway, Factory Match Pyro and Boost, 4" Diamond eye exhaust, and a broken front sway bar :-)

thank you for the reply collegekid. i have worn my old fingers to the bone on the net trying to find out, without much luck. it looks like i may have to use 3/8" threaded rod to pull the coupler onto the pump shaft.

You can rent a tool that will work from autozone or oreilly. It looks like this.

That tool looks like the one for the newer trucks.

The old school engine is different. You go pressing anything onto a power steering pump shaft, you won't be using that pump.

The gear is pulled into place with a long/ grade eight stud and hard nut.

That's how the tool works. You screw it into the shaft, 3/8thsX16 threads on the end of the tool, then use the nut and bearing assembly to push the pulley/drive onto the shaft. Image
