92 Pulling Truck

Postby Kasper Cummins » Thu Aug 18, 2011 3:56 pm

Im back to my original plan of building my 92 in to a pulling truck. Im going to have it ready for the first local pull in May 2012, so I got a lot of work to do. Im thinking about running it in the 2.6 class, which is going to take alot of fuel to keep a turbo that big spooled. Still not sure what im going to do with the transmission so im open to advice on that. I have traction bars in the works and a hitch. Could I get tips on how to set up a dual feed for my pump, its getting a boost reference ragulator one of these weekends.

Thank you for any help.

Well....

To start with, RPM's are needed.

So:

4k spring
60lbs valve springs

With RPM's you need fuel:

Something to push 30psi @ 100gph

Dual feeding with the VE I have seen but a few who did it.

What trans?

What turbo and sizes?

If I were to do the 2.6" and be a dedicated sled puller:

NV4500 or 47RH, built
14mm head and rotor for the pump
Custom pump~ I have TONS of ideas here
5x18's or bigger injectors
Airdog 150GPH pumps with 1/2" lines and a sump
S366~ 66/74/14 ish
Powerstroke Intercooler with 3" charge tubes

This isn't including the tires!

I planning on putting a 4200 rpm spring in and 60lb valve springs. The regulator I was going to set at 20 psi with 0 psi of boost and set the lift pump at 50 psi. Hopefully the seal holds it. Im think for injectors I'll put a set of rockentech 6x.016 tips on the stock bodies. Turbo I was thinking s366 or gt4088 which is 65.5/88/.81.
I was kicking around the idea of putting my bfg atko on duals and 2 ATs on the singles to switch on the rear. Either ATs on the front or MTs.

What do u think of DDP Comp injectors or should I have a set of 6x.016 made? What size are DDP Comp?
Could I run a 4200rpm spring with a 14mm h/r?

I'd personally have a set of 6x16 or 6x18 made.

Ok going with 6x18 and if the stock intercooler can't keep up the I'll go with air to water intercooler. I was doing some research on here and some say the VE wont fuel at high rpms so 4k is not worth putting in but some say they love there 4k spring? So if it doesn't fuel that high why do some like it?

From what I've read 3500RPM and the power is falling fast. The ones I hear like the added rpm are racing and gearbound so they need it to get threw the traps a bit faster.

Only do the 4200rpm spring with the 14mm H/R if you want to try a few different things beyond the normal H&R swap.

I would to the 4200rpm spring because of lighting a nice 2.6". You will want to carry about 3200rpms down the track and you don't want to be hitting the defuel point. It will result in a touchier throttle...

Also, will your pulling organization allow a water-to-air cooler? Most won't unless you are running 3.0" or bigger.

2.6 around here lets you run air to water.

There is no rule saying anything about intercoolers, but they don't have many rules for the 2.6 class that's why I like it. There are only a few that run the 2.6 class because the stock class they can run up to a 2.5 but that class is always full.
