Beautiful COLORADO!

Postby Mark Nixon » Fri Aug 19, 2011 4:58 pm

What a gorgeous state!
I went from the flat Front Range to the Southwestern Colorado area and it was a nice, enjoyable ride.
Rolled through Loveland to pick up a transfer case, then hit a yard that had the remains of a '92 E/C dually and snagged the power steering/vacuum pump, some wiring and brackets (engine was gone, cored out).
I even saw THREE 1969 Darts, two were 340 cars, one 4 speed, one auto, the third was a 6 cylinder.

Then it was on to Denver to drop off an axle and Intercooler, after that I ended up in a little town south of Alamosa, called Conejos, to pick up an NV4500 4WD conversion and transfer case.

From there it was free reins, so I headed to the 4 corners area, Farmington, NM to pick up a 29 spline NP205 and also acquired a couple of NV4500 bellhousings, a clutch fan and some other goodies.
It was tempting to buy the poptop '74 TrailDuster with the frameless doors that I saw, but parts were more affordable.

I saw a lot of very decent, rustfree sheetmetal and beds for the 1stgens.

Then it was back homeward, went up US 160 through Pagosa Springs, up Wolf Creek Pass, back through Alamosa, to Walsenburg, where I dropped off some dually wheels.
Then it was back to the yard with the '92 1 ton, where I snagged the Intercooler the owner forgot to mention, along with an NOS rear gray headliner trim piece, hidden behind a seat in another truck.

After that, it was back across US 34, to extreme southwest Nebraska, near McCook, to look at a '70 Duster and see an old friend I hadn't seen in 10 years.
That was the highlight of the trip, really.

Save for a right front caliper and caliper mount having to be changed on the road, it was a very uneventful trip mechanically, but the flatbed only got 13 mpg with an EMPTY trailer on, not great IMO.

Ellis, since you asked, I'll say that my balls got chafed, that's about all.

I'm looking to go back, because I left a lot of nice stuff there that I could probably use or get for someone else who can use it.

I'd also really like to go see the sights, the views along those back highways are just plain awesome, I normally could care less about sightseeing, but I gotta' say, there are some nice places to see out there.

And the ladies out that way aren't that bad lookin' either. :P

hey-Hey!!!,
I went through McCook on my way home with the 1990. There is one product that may help, it's called 'Anti-Monkey-Butt Powder'...hard to believe, but there is a monkey with a swollen, red backside on the squeeze bottle.
cheers,

Might as well put this one in the "One that went downhill fast" files.
Like dropping a lead weight from an airplane, it went STRAIGHT down.

Wonder why Pete never commented on this one? :?:

Except for the fact that if it REALLY bugs me, I use ARGO corn starch, which is my way of going "Old School" on chafing down there.

Hey, buzz off!
I'm not happy about the turn of events, either.

I'd much rather talk about the sights, like the driving through the mountains and looking down into a valley filled with the lights of a small town, or what I saw in the yards and driving on the roads, or even that one yard man who came off as an a-hole and turned out to be real cool.

I'd prefer to talk of the old friend that I hadn't see in 10 years, that used to run a local yard.
He is a guy who'd say "Jump in that old Poncho, we're going to beat the snot out of it in the back 40", then proceed to do bank shots off old wrecks out there.

Yeah, that's what I'd prefer to talk about.
