Some states are different, but here no money stays with the department that writes the tickets. It all goes to the state's genral fund. The only money that stays local is parking tickets and civil infractions. ( like code enforcement fines ).

With Municipalities (Villages, Cities, Townships, etc.), I believe that local government gets any revenue from local ordinances, such as anti-smoke, or un-muffled exhaust brakes (Also called "Noise Ordinances"), which are, in my mind also "frivolous ordinances".
These rank in with un-liscenced pets, or your grass being too tall, or the color of your house clashing with the neighbors.

These ordinances are the ones your neighbors get put on the local (city or county) agendas to make other neighbors that they don't agree with come into line.

In a way, it's local government letting US fight each other and giving us the ammo (rules and procedures) to do it, while these Municipalities sit back and collect the fines, which a few angry people (Knowingly, or Un-Knowingly) enabled them to do.

They passed a rule here that says its illegal to weld outside, sand paint, stockpile dirt, ect if you have a home buisness. My current buisness is not considered a home buisness because I don't make product here for resale. If I mixed crushed rock and gravel in a pile and resold it then it would change. I had a member of the planning board tell me if I lived next to him, and started sanding paint on my lobster boat he would come over with a gun. We had a few words and he backed down before his grill got broke. :D They almost passed a rule that a dump truck could not be parked in a driveway unless it was in a garage out of site. Its the out of stater's that have moved in and they are the ones that have the money, don't have to work, and have lots of free time to join the boards that write the local laws. There was even a couple that went in front of the selectmen and wanted a fire arm shooting ban in the town. The whole town has 2500 people in it and is 99% woods. They said " where we are from, if you hear shots, it means someone was just killed " Idiots.

Seems a little extreme, on his part.

Around here it's wealthy, retired farmers with nothing to do, so they stir up crap in town (Most of the troublemakers live out in the county), much like the people moving in that you mentioned, with nothing else to do.

That could go either way here  One dope head that lives down the street was shoot out of a window by my neighbor. The neighbor said the feller was coming in his spare bed room window and he heard him. Apearantly he keeps a 410 loaded and close at hand. :D

.410?
Damn, a small squirrel gun won't do much to a person.

Used to hunt Squirrels (tree rats, not two leggers :D ) as a kid and it seems if I was too close it didn't kill them.
Had one once that I somehow missed from 15 feet away, and he come unglued on me, tried to chase me down, next shot got him, but I bought a 12 gauge next day and that never happened again.

Freaked me out.

A 410 shoots more than just shot. A lead slug is one mean _astard :cheese:

I believe Dearborn, MI has monitors hung from telephone poles that would allow them to figure out just where any gunfire came from. These are the same folks who are quite happy to give out tickets if you don't properly hide your trash cans or let your grass grow too long. Forget dump trucks, even trailers are outlawed. No longer is my address anywhere near that sort of place...and then there is 'occupancy certificates'; alledgedly set up to make sure you can't buy a house and live in it whilst you fix it up. Too close to Detroit anyhoo.
cheers,
