AFC Lever?

Postby Crossy's son » Tue Oct 04, 2011 9:14 am

Can someone tell me or show me a pic how to either grind the afc lever foot off or remove it all together? I

I have an old pump top already off, I was looking at it today and i think i know which one the afc lever is, but not sure. it's right next to the manual shutoff lever that comes inside the pump?

What's the difference between removing it and grinding the foot off?

this is for the 93 in the sig, I'm putting a gov. spring in it this weekend and wanna do something with the afc lever for all out fuel for drag racing

Thanks
Brandon

cutting it is just the lazy way of removing it, since you have it out you should just remove it so you dont have to cut it

Why would you cut/remove it anyways?

removing the afc makes the pump provide max fuel all the time, instead of using the boost to regulate fuel control

yea, looking for lots of fuel.

I guess I'll just remove it, don't i have to epoxy some bearing balls in place or something?

I did.

so far What i got out of it, was you have to hit one bearing to push the little pin out and the other side bearing that holds the lever on, then you pull the lever out, put the pin back in without the afc lever, and push the ball bearing things back in again.

I can't find exactly where i need to put the epoxy, inside or outside of the pump?

Maybe once I look at the pump top closer, I'll see why the bearings have to be glued in.

I understand it now, I am epoxying or sealing the balls from the outside to ensure they don't leak.
I was afraid of the bearings falling inside the pump, but now i see if I leave the AFC lever shaft in there the bearings can't fall in, and i just have to seal them up from the outside.

Seems easy enough :)

the epoxy method may work (never done that one)

I threaded the holes with a 1/4 20 when I helped a friend do his truck... and about 2 weeks later he put it back in so he didnt have to efff with the epoxy.

found the thread we went off.

quote "Just follow the instructions for the 366 spring install. When the pump top is off you just tap out both retainer balls on either side of the shaft that the AFC lever rides on. Run a 1/4-20 tap in both holes, clean. Reinsert the shaft with the AFC on it (obviously), put a SMALL dab of RTV in the holes, run your two set screws in tight. Re-assemble your pump (hopefully with the 366 spring instead of the stocker), and you're done."

thats exactly how we did it, it was a 92 truck and was surprisingly not that smokey with no afc, but the smoke didnt help spool his trubo and wasnt much more power than an "old smokey" pun so he put the lever back in

my truck smokes enough as is so I decided not to do it on mine

Typed "AFC removal" into the Google search in the upper left, and this was 3rd in line.
