You have what? the one like in the sale add? I know some people have issues with a regular tach reading the low 5 volt signal the factory tach wire sends.

I haven't been able to get the gas tach that was in my truck before to work with the factory wiring harness.

It was originally wired straight to the coil to start with on the 318 and worked then. It's a Equus Products Pro racing tach.

MSD makes a signal converter that let's analog tachs use the signal from distributorless ignition systems on newer cars and trucks. It uses the crank sensors like our trucks have.

I think I'll just go to an Isspro. The one I've got is old and doesn't look that great.

It would probably be more accurate too ;) I've used a lot of the equus stuff and found it lacking, don't get me wrong you can't beat them for the money but when it needs to read right I use something better.

dakota digital makes a converter box as well. That is what I use to run my tach. I added a W wire to my alternator for the signal to the converter.

Yeah that's what I figured after looking them up. Would like all my gauges to be similar when I'm done. It's also a big tach and be hard finding a place out of the way to put it.

I have had my autometer diesel tach for almost 6yrs with no problems. It does however read off the alt and if you buy one you'll have to move it around the alternator case to find the most accurate signal. Least that's what I had to do

maybe we jus got lucky then lol we jus strapped it on and it was right at 900 and 1500rpms, (revs up and hard to keep a steady rpm after that) :D
