Check Engine light??/

Friday after using the truck most of the day as I pulled into the garage, the Check Engine light was on. I looked over the gauge and it looks like the volt gauge is reading a little low. I have not hooked up an actual volt meter to see what it is actually reading for voltage, as soon as the truck gets home I will do that. My question is this- I cycled the key three times, and I got a 34 for a code through the blinking light. I just got done pouring through the FSM and see absolutley no mention of the CEL in that book, or code list either. Internet searching brings me to cruise control soleiod problem on a 93 dakota......

I am perplexed as this truck never has thrown a CEL ever. My knowledge of the electrical of the truck, is the 'computer' monitors and controls little, but has not much to do with the engine. Anybody have any more info on this code. FWIW its a 93, CTD Getrag, 4x4, that has very little molesting done to the electrical. The wiring is much like it came from the factory.

I checked the Check Engine light again, and it was again 34. However the cruise control worked flawlessly. I got it home, put a volt meter on the battery and engine off 12.5 volts, engine running 12.4 volts. I took off the original 277,000 mile alternator that was 18 years old and replaced it with a brand new alternator for $170. The volt meter on the battery then read 14.5 volts after starting the engine, the check engine light went out.

I dunno how the two are corralated, but thats what I had, and how I fixed it.

two weeks ago my check engine light on my 93 came on for a few days. I noticed the voltage was low, checked it with an external guage it was low. I cycled the key to read the codes but no codes appeared just check engine blinking. Ever since that moment the truck hasnt had low voltage or check engine light has not been on. miracle?

No, it's likely a warning.
Don't be surprised if something major goes wrong in the charging system soon.

There is no such thing as a "miracle", no matter how much you "believe".
