injection pump leak

Postby Hansen01 » Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:49 pm

well i put all new o rings in my vacuum pump and replaced the powersteering pump tonight, good news is there no leaks there anymore :D , bad news is that my injection pump it leaking at the front underneith the big spring that all the throttle cables control, i have a picture on my fone but cant get my computer to cooperate with me to upload it, any help on why its leaking would be apretiated, it is not leaking out of the pump top, but out of whatever is underneith the spring :x

The throttle shaft has an O-ring on it. A reaseal kit is like $20 from a Cummins dealer ant it'll fix your next leak too ;) It's pretty straight forward

I take it you haven't done a 366 spring? Take the pump top off then, IIRC, the govenor spring is hooked on one end to this throttle shaft by way of a swivel and the other end is hooked to the tophat/washer assembly. Once the top is off, you can push the throttle shaft through

Mine makes it VERY obvious where it's parked. LP, IP, oil, trans fluid  I fixed them all except the oil leak. It's just sweating horsepower 8)

I think we're thinking of the same thing  I'm not smart enough to be able to post pics either  If you're already in there, may as well do the 366 spring, it feels sooo much faster with the 366 spring, which is only another $20.

Cummins doesn't nickel and dime you to death, they $20 and $50 you to death

Personally, I'd just pull the pump and re-seal the whole thing.
The chances of losing parts go up when you try to do it in place.

I left it on the truck just because i didn't have the means to pull the IP off. Good luck to you 8)
