Ouch that piston doesn't look good. Did you throw a gauge on it to check compression after putting it back together? I wonder if that's what caused the headgasket to let go. Is that on the edge facing 2 or 4

no, havnt checked the compression, might swap the injectors soon, if i do, ill check it then.

it didnt look to bad, I think its a nick from the piece of fire ring that fell off, im guessing thats made its way through the turbo somehow... :/

valve looked good, seat looked ok.

any idea what the propper compressin should be?

when i check ed them before, (of course the only ones i checked were 2 and 3) I only got 100lbs when the headgasket was junk

need to swap back to my old injectors, of course those are all dirty now... UGHH

Alex a 100lbs is super low for a diesel engine,I know the gasket was blown. I looked this morning on my mitchell and I got the old "info not available" so I'll say this, a PSD with less than 250lbs of compression HAS to have ether to start. I would suspect that the compression psi of our motors should be 300 or better to ignite the fuel.

I've seen people post readings of 350-380 but I don't recall if that was low or normal.

yeah, your right, but that was testing it with the bad gasket, i need to check it with the new one. Thats how i diagnosed the issue, #2 and #3 would leak right into each otherm, and out whatever valve was open on the other cylinder. I could hear air pouring out of the exhaust, and right out of the intake

BTW the sire has told me network error 4 times, and reverted me to writing this comment over...4 times.... my fingers hurt

yeah, think I might have seen the same link, maybe cummins will have a figure in their books, but I doubt it if they encourage a leak down test instead

would be nice to run a taller fuel filter

The edge of that piston looks like it might have gotten a bit scorched when the gasket popped, hopefully someone with more smarts than me`ll chime in.

Compression around 400 is ok. It's more important that they are within about 20 psi of each other. It will run at 350, but with one at 200 it will skip like a SOB. ;)
