Drove the Jetta and I liked it, but the air was really weak and the paint was awful. It looked like someone keyed random words in cursive all over the car, not that the paint is a big deal but with a kid we need working heat an A/C and the paint was just icing on the cake, so to speak.

The Honda had been listed for 2 days and was gone by the time I got there. :?

It looks like the search for a reasonably priced Subaru resumes...

Yeah, it sucks. I've been looking and they are going for ridiculous prices around here. Some that are 10-12 years old with over 200K miles are selling for 6-7K. It seems like you have to get extremely lucky to score a decent, low mileage, decently priced Honda.

That being said, I have continued my Subaru search and think I've stumbled on a few good ones.

I really like that one but the miles scare me a little. I adore the '02 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport and from what I've read 178,xxx miles aren't anything to run away from but I'll certainly try and talk him down from 5k.

Here's one that Dallas really likes...

Looks like a decent car/suv as well. I think both cars have the same engine and tranny.

The Impreza Outback is 84 miles away and the Forester is almost 200, but it looks like I will have to travel to find a nice car.

Dar, how do those cars look to you. ;)

I was once looking for a Subaru. I asked about them on a different forum and got alot of negative replies. It's a Honda board so take it as you will.

I don't think I'll be getting a Honda. Not because I don't like them but because around here they are priced like they're made from gold even when they are rusted to pieces with 200K miles on them. Toyota's seem to be the same way.

From talking with Darwin on here, he has loved every Subaru he's owned. I've done quite a bit of research myself and have talked to quite a few local people and no one has said anything bad about their Subaru. Plus, with my truck being a 2wd it would be nice to have an awd car during the winter months (although a fwd would do fine as well.) I'll still be looking for Honda's if I don't get this Subaru but I'll need to get super lucky to find a decent one. I'll definitely take a look at that Honda board though, thanks for the link.

Both of those cars look fine to me Parker, the forester would go better in the snow with more ground clearance, but both will
go like you can't imagine, my last one hade 180,000 with no problems other than i changed one side head gasket.

I WOULD FOR SHURE TRY TO GET A CAR FROM THE SOUTH, rust kills more than just sheet metal.

mine all came from TX so they had no rust what-so-ever, but i have bought a couple dodges from TN, KY and they both were good also.
