Pulled the injectors tonight and am heading back out to fiddle some more before bedtime. Bugged my buddy all day to borrow his injector puller and they all ended pulling out by hand with their retainer nuts.

Got the head off and hanging tonight. I'm debating on just getting it hot tanked and letting them install the springs while I get the block cleaned up. I can't wait to hear about all the cracks it's got in it.

They've all got a bit of scuff to them, but #5 is pretty gnarly. The crosshatch is still there on all of them, and the worst scuffs on #5 can barely be felt with a fingernail, but it sucks to see them.

I blame the scuffing on how I've treated the truck. It sat in a barn for a couple years after I bought it, then one day, in the middle of winter, I pulled it out and started driving it. It sits for a few months, then gets driven for a few, then sits for a few. Hopefully I can run it a little more often once I get this stuff done. I think I'll be happy engine-wise after this.

I think if it was me I'd pull it the rest of the way apart. Go ahead and replace the bearings and rings and atleast hone the cylinders.

Ive been told many a time that anything that can be felt with a fingernail (on a cyl wall) is grounds for a re-bore.

I would run it for now, seeing that you have lots of goodies coming.... but I would also buy a spare and rebuild it IMO

Meh, a spare Cummins is too big to keep in our shop. We've got the walls lined with lathes and shelving, there's no room for it.

I'll just see what I want/an afford to do to it while it's winter. It'll keep it out of the salt. I am looking into balancing the rotating assembly some. It doesn't seem to cost much more than a few hundred bucks from what I've searched so far, and just one of those dampers is $600+.

If I'm seeing that right, it looks like the fuel is being squirted in the bowl. Yes, there's a little out of the bowl. but unless I'm mistaken, that's not bad at all.

Yup, that's what I was thinking too. I am kind of concerned with the little bit going out of the bowl, since my timing is still apparently stock. I was planning on jumping 2 teeth and pulling it to the back of the slots, I don't know now...

Just found these guys: http://catalog.remflex.com/
They make real exhaust gaskets, not crappy thin stainless ones. I'd already ordered up another round of gaskets for my twins, or these would be going on it.

They're high, but IMHO they're worth it. Nothing worse than an exhaust leak on something that depends on boost for it's power.

Studs should be here Monday, no news otherwise.

Messed around some tonight, fabbing around on the new intake:
It's not quite the angle I expected them to intersect at, I apparently thought the intake hole was a lot longer than it is. It'll be shuffled around as it comes back together and injection lines get in and out of the way, but this is what I'm looking to do.


Here's the old man and I's "machine shop". They're all old, but I couldn't imagine trying to make something without them anymore. Especially the mill and bandsaw. I'm pretty sure a man could make anything in the world with a mill, bandsaw, and welder.


I did manage to install the most important mod of all tonight, this years titty calender. I'd get you some pics, but I don't think photobucket or BC would appreciate it very much.
