Levi, why not route the intake tube so that it take a sharp 90 at the front of the head, the follws parralle with the head so that it dosnt take any work to take the valve covers off.

Im sure u could fab it up, would look a bit cleaner IMO than the two going over the head.

Im a sucker for 90* angles 8)

BTW i keep tellim my old man to get our GIANT bandsaw out of storage and bring it too the shop. for some reason he dosnt think its a tool we would use  ....guess he likes buying sawzall blades....

I hate sawzalls, I'd rather use a cutoff wheel. I don't remember the last time I ever used a sawzall on anything of my own, it's always been on someone else's vehicle when they handed it to me.

I like that idea, I'll have to see how they flow that way. I'm going to an electric fan, so the fan shroud and stuff won't be in the way anymore. I'm heading back in my thread to look at some pics of it together...

I'm a sucker for 90*s too, but if my boost gets much higher I'm afraid they're going to become a weak spot.

I dont mean 90* angle boot's, just 90* angles on piping and stuff so that it all looks clean. Something like the intake on Cole dow's grey truck. pretty sure the Intake lpuming comes out on the passenger side of his truck, across the front of the head, then a sharp 90* angle into the intake log (milled off intake style.

I was thinking you could make one pipe, with some tight 90* bends welded onto it, with some tiny straight rubber pieces.

howdup..... ill do some paint artwork to splain' my idea.

like this...

Too late, I've already got it planned. 8)

You're right, it is a much cleaner setup, but I use silicone 90*s because I can't weld. If I start putting steel 90*s in there I'm gonna have to step my grinding game up.

I'm thinking around the front of the head, with the grids where they are I weld a steel 90* directly to its adapter, then cut out the backside and continue through it to a 45* that points towards the back of the intake.

Me likey so far, minus all the welding I'm going to have to beg my buddy to do.

:edit: I was going to challenge you to a paint duel, but you went all freehand 3d on me.

We're definitely thinking the same thing, I just wonder if there's enough clearance for me to get my piping over the upper radiator hose and still keep it out of the hood.

I'll start sniffing around for some 3" mandrel 90*s.

Although if I wanted to be really different I'd use some of those crush-bent 90*s from Autozone. Nobody else has those on their truck, especially the intake. 8)

that link didnt work... P/N 4981T18 is kindof what you need, 35$ is about as cheep as it gets, tight radius stuff costs$$$$$

i got my mandrel elbows from Wolf aircraft supply. but ive seen 3 inch pipe elbows from mcmaster before, they are heavy wall and super nice quality

Why not just do a T instead of cutting the back out of a 90?

I think a T type coinnection would make the air favor the rear inlet

I would actually prefer it to favor the rear of the intake, but a 90* would look nicer there. It'll have to wait now until I can get an idea of hood clearances...

I love messing with my intake piping.

I see it doing the same with the 90 unless you cut the rear whole small to keep diverting air. The log manifolds I've seen are all 90 angel feeding the head.

FYI, 90's are bad ju ju. They add restriction and cause swirl because the air has to turn so sharp. Plus the friction makes the air warm again, which defeats the purpose of using the IC or whatever you use to cool it.
I hate to pop your bubble, but just saying........... ;)

This truck was built on 90*s, Pete. :P

I've actually heard that if you build a pipeline, and put enough 90*s in it, nothing would flow through it. We used to count how many 90*s my air had to go through to get to my intake. We always counted the IC as 180*, so it was never less than 4.
