York compressors seem to be the best way to go. It's the piston style pump that makes them desireable. They came on late 70's Fords

The simplest way would be to ditch your A/C and put the York pump there. I'd assume you'd need a tank for it too. I don't really know alot about this stuff, I just helped a buddy make a set-up for his truck.

CMANN are you talking of the old compressers shaped up like a V-Twin motorcycle motor?

If you are I'd like to see someone put that in the same hole as our factory compressers :D

I don't know how long our compressers would last doing this. A working A/C system uses a lubricant that's circulated around with the freon and returned to the compresser. To make it pressure a tank you'd use the pressure side and leave the suction open to air with a filter. This would let its oil pump off in the tank and no lube for it. If you could devise a way to feed the suction side with some lube then your factory one could work fine.
FWIW the factory comps can pump 250psi and live fine 8)

Yes sir, I am. Like I said, I'm not really into this kind of stuff. I just helped a friend do it once, so I don't really know the fine details. The alternator is in the easiest place to put the compressor. And yes you're right, it's a tight fit down there

I still haven't finished installing everything yet...

Super simple bracket. Just removed the original alternator top bracket and made a new one out of flat plate with some holes drilled for the compessor (not done yet in this pic)

Ellis, the York compressor is a single cylinder unit with a square body. It is/was used in big trucks and fords like mentioned. I have one here I was going to put on my truck and then went electric instead. Someplace I have a link to a jeep site that tells how to prep it for compressor use. Seems like you have to drill a drain hole for the oil and plug another one. I can't remember exactly. I thought it had to be upright for correct lubrication but I could be wrong. I guess got a sol will let us know. ;)

Standing upright is preferred but it will work on its side as well, just might consume a little more oil this way. http://www.onboardair.com/ says as long as the suction side is on top you are ok. I have a coalescing filter within a foot of the compressor to help with that.

I actually worked on getting some of the plumbing done yesterday. I wish I had ordered 90 degree fittings for the compressor and coalescing filter to clean it up a bit, oh well.

I put the tank where the spare tire would be since it won't fit under my truck any more

Intercooled compressors can be taken apart, oil added to the front gear housing, taping said holes for npt pipe plugs to hold the oil, and adding an air tank. Look it up on Pirate 4x4. I think the model we have is a Sandenson or something like that.

I got my system up and running today (save for wiring)

One air coupler can be seen on the core support next to the over flow bottle. I'll have another at the back of the truck.

It took less than 5 mins to accomplish this with a 12.5 gallon tank from completely empty at idle.

Joe, what are you running the belt off of? I see it's a Vee belt, and the idler.
