HX35 compressor housing seal repair

Postby m880cummins » Sun Jan 29, 2012 9:38 am

Well last night, after I solved the exhaust brake closing I was able to push 40PSI and was going up a long steep grade full out pedal down to the floor and heard a loud BAM! Turned out the snap ring that holds the compressor on came out and the compressor came off!I babied it home and luckily nothing was hurt other than a small scuff on the housing where the turbine wheel rubbed for a second. Not bad at all though. I couldn't locate a new o ring all morning as the old one came out from different parts of the engine bay so I decided to make one with form a gasket sealant. I was a little nervous doing this but without any gasket at all the turbine wheel does not rub the housing so I figured a skim layer of form a gasket after it dries and is assembled will be enough...

Will let you know the result

Best idea to trash the gasket and use a bead of silicone. Turbo sounds like it is on steroids now. It spools up so much quicker without the gasket and makes well, look....lol

HX35s don't HAVE an 'O' ring there, that's most likely why this one came apart under pressure.
They also don't need any sort of sealer to seal them, either.
It's pretty annoying when people who think they know better get a hold of parts like these and screw them up.
