Injection Pump Recall Notices.

Postby Mark Nixon » Mon Feb 06, 2012 11:52 am

I was running some VIN numbers based on 1 VIN that I had here and pulled up numerous trucks in which the INJECTION PUMP RECALL NOTICES have not been resolved.
My VIN ended in "NM502504", so close, yet so far away.
These 5 needing replaced are all based on 1992 numbers and are the last 8 of the VINs:

NM502500
NM502506
NM502515
NM502521
NM502523

Go to this link and input the last 8 of your VIN, you never know, you may end up with a REQUIRED new pump out of the deal:
http://www.dodge.com/webselfservice/dod ... ame=recall

And YES, they MUST at least check the pump to verify and replace it, as it is considered a "Safety" defect.

Something about a lever breaking, IIRC.
Also, some '91s were recalled for a "Steering Wheel Anti-Separation Plate", which I have a recall showing for on one of mine.
Need to see if they'll deal with that or not.

IDK if were talking about the same plate...but i had a guy come in once with his steering wheel almost falling off, little rectangular plate on the steering wheel under the horn button broke... wouldn't take much for the wheel to go into limbo.... it was a 92

Some '92s used a "base" steering wheel, which is the same construction as all of the '91s were, so I can believe that it was coming apart.
Mine is also coming apart on the '91 I spoke of earlier, which is the main reason I don't drive it.
That and POS automatic is leaking at the converter seal.

I read somewhere that the little ball assembly coming off the bottom of the governor assembly, that connects it to the collar, breaks in some pumps.

None on mine too...but the pump isn't original either, doesn't have the grayish/black factory paint on it. Looks like it's been on for a long time though...

Ok I just put in my VIN and it says that there is an outstanding recall for my DIESEL FUEL PUMP. I am guessing this is the injection pump. Should I actually take it in for this? My truck runs perfectly so I think I may just sit around until it the pump needs replacement?

I wouldn't just sit on it, but CHANCES are that someone has already done the pump in the aftermarket, because it was leaking, or some other problem.
If you have tampered with it, it may be a moot point, but I still would check on it, because Dodge considered it a safety issue.

The link still works.
I think Dodge had caught onto this by sometime in 1993, as I've seen a good number of 1993s with OEM-colored pumps on them, but it's always worth checking into.

It won't be the same paint as on the block. It will be un-painted.
