Run away? 911!!

I just had the top off a pump to put a throttle shaft seal in it. In the process my index mark got lost. I've had it together 3 times now. 1st time it idled about right, maybe a hair high but when you pulled the linkage it throttled down? Figured maybe it was indexed to far clockwise. Pulled apart and relocked it, this time it ran away. I tried to split the difference this 3rd time but I haven't tried it again yet. What is the deal here? Just indexed wrong? I need the truck going tonight! Any ideas???

The 1st time you had the shaft in 180* wrong. The arm was towards the fender, it needs to be towards the engine. Do it again, and don't get in a hurry. If when you start it it idles high, try to adjust it, or move the lever on the shaftcounter clockwise 1 notch. If it idles way low, or only starts with a little throttle, move the lever clockwise 1.

Didn't seem like I moved it enough to go 180 from the fender to the block but maybe I did. Guess ill keep trying.

If it turns out to be on the verge of run-away, simply back out the main fuel-screw a little.

I haven't turned it up any more since I took the pump apart.
