Need a little help with I/C coupler choosing

Postby The_Head » Tue Apr 03, 2012 2:14 pm

When I had my Powerstroke I/C installed, radiator hoses were used as couplers. After a few 50+ psi runs they don't look too good. I think I may be loosing boost in that area and wanted to replace them. I am also running the cooler tubez. I just needed to check and see what size diameter couplers I needed to get. I think I need 3 inch, right? Or do I need a little bigger? Also, where is the place to go online for silicone couplers? I have heard frozenboost.com is a good place but am not sure, as I have not yet had to order this type of product for my truck.

3" sounds right, but definately put a tape to it.

I bought silicone boots from frozen boost and they have treated me fine thus far. I have them on a homade intake, so there's no pressure, but some heat applied to them. I think Tacoclaw has them too

Did you get the coolertubz for the PS IC install? If so they use a 3.25''. The normal cooltertubz use 3''. You should be able to see the expanded end (~3'' long) if they are the PSIC tubez. I would recommend getting ford PS IC boots if you need the 3.25'' size, they are better than the regular 3.25 stuff you will find. Price will play a big factor too.

Otherwise these will work:

I've been putting the hurting on some Siliconeintakes.com couplers for a good while now. Running 40+ into a 90* right out of the compressor, and 50+ into a 45* and a 90* right out of the compressor. For a driver, I don't think you can hurt them, but I've read they can't hold up to a strictly race truck over on CompD.

Also, I'm almost positive Siliconeintakes and Frozenboost are the same people. Their websites look almost exactly the same. :?

My internet ninja'ing skills say they are 2 different companies.

Reason being that Frozenboosts registration is under a company who conceals their name with a 3rd party while SiliconeIntakes lists the guys actual name. Also 1 started in June of 05 and the other October of 06.

No I got the normal cooler tubez as I had a stock intercooler at the time. I don't think the ps cooler tubez were an option quite yet.

Then you will need a 3x3.25 hose.

Well shoot. Both sites are sold out of those reducers.

Could I instead do a 3.25" hump hose and get away with it on the piping side by clamping it down extra tight?

I'm not exactly sure what the outlet on the D-tech turbos are, but it's smaller than the 3" hose I've got on it and I've managed to squeeze it down enough to work. I found a clamp laying around the shop that just barely opened up enough to go around the hose, then tightened it down. A normal 3" clamp bottomed out before it was tight.

Or old Hineman could steal everyone's thunder and show up with the right part. :P

They need to be 5" long, and black... and I am talking about silicone couplers.

The frozenboost and silicone intake reducers are only 3" long.
