power loss

Postby stock91w350 » Sun Jan 03, 2010 6:21 pm

I took my stock 1991 1ton truck and did a couple upgrades and when i was done i had less power and less smoke. i turned the fuel pin so the steeper side was fueling, i turned the star wheel 2 turns down, i watched a instructional video on how to do this while i did it. when i fel t less power and saw less smoke i put it back exactly the way it was and still less power and smoke. what could of happened? its like at half throttle i can floor it and nothing happens still seems like half throttle. ant ideas? thank you

also its a 5 spd manual and even if i downshift and hammer down up a hill it still bogs down and slows down, the truck starts idles perfect other than the lack of power, it pushes snow better than any truck ive seen tho, so it seems that pulling and pushing power is great but speed power bad

You sure the deepest side of the fuel cone is to the front?

yea i actually kept second guessing myself so tried it turned a bunch of ways some was worse than others,i have a bully dog pin and a 3200spring on the way, guess ill see what happens after i put them in. should i turn the starwheel down and how far if so? the truck only has a stack and the pump turned up some, the smoke screw is a bolt with no cap over it so someone messed with that also i guess

Are you sure you turned the starwheel the right way? Clockwise as you look down on it? The only other thing I can think of is maybe the fuel pin that rides the cone is stucking. Pull the cone, and give the truck full throttle while you watch in the hole. (not running) The pin should shoot right out. If not, maybe spray some lube on it, then try to move it again. You need to push it back with a screwdriver before you put the cone back in.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Metal. Goes from the head to the top of the pump where you went into to make the changes. This is the line that you need to disconnect before taking the 4 screws out of the top to access the fuel pin.
