But still compounding a bigger turbo to a super to the engine seems like it would be the easiest way to go.

Point 1: I understand where you are coming from now. However, the point of the small ramping up the pressure of the big, is not really what it is needed for. Typically, it is flowing 1/2 the CFM of the big one.

Point 2: It has been tried and became a choke point. The reason being the bypass (pop) valve not being big enough to flow the CFM needed to drop the pressure to a safe zone for the supers rotors. Once a bigger bypass was put in (BOV I think they used), it was too quick of a drop in pressure.

Well I thank you for the explanation. So I now understand how it could work but there would be a PSI limit, but still it is nice to get a full explanation

Thank You!.

They are not solely using the bypass in the super to draw air. The setups I've seen recently have another roughly 2" pipe coming from your filter intake with a throttle body type setup feeding to the inlet bos on the turbo. Its controlled by a waste gate actuator like on a hy35 or hx35. You hit 20psi from the super the other gate starte to crack open. By 25 psi its wide open allowing a clear alternative path for the turbo to draw air and not being chocked by the super. So the super is running full song at 25 psi the turbo is starting to or singing already and the valve opens allowing more air to be sucked in. There are videos on YouTube of similar setups over sees on imports they daily drive. The whole point of a super/ turbo setup like this is to hive you snappy bottom end and a strong topend without sacrificing drivability.

It must be even better than properly sized and tuned compound setup then?

You always have boost. From what ive read its usually 5 psi at idle and climbs fast. I like the idea of fueling hard down low and cleaning it up fast.

he said he was under driving the pully alot once he realized that he didnt have to suck through the blower all the time, hence, he knows that eventually the charger is doing all the work, but 5;bs of boost at idle gives any diesel a good start

THis is just being out there but would a 871 or even a 1271 allow enough air flow? Just a thought. Lol be a lot of fab work but would be cool.

The turbocharged 2cycle Detroit's don't even need the blower once the turbo builds boost. Know of several guys using them to power center pivots. They pull the blower off and add a block off plate. Use compressed air at starting, and when the turbo is lit, they cut the air off and the turbo does the job. The blower is a restriction at that point.
