Never used one, but any complaint I've heard of, is hard cold starts in the winter. Doesn't seem to affect everyone though.

Ya, I too have heard about the hard starting during winter. Personally I don't know because my grid heaters didn't work and I just did away with them. So my truck is harder than crap to start when it gets really cold or I plug it in and it is super easy because my block heater definitely works great.

I have cold start problems with it, so I just take it off for the winter. Easy enough to do.

Dawned on me why cold starts are an issue. I took my ksb wire off and just did away with it.

With the spacer, if I hook up my ksb it advances it so far my truck idles down about 250 rpms and almost just stalls out because it is way too much advance.

That is what mine does, the bottom drops out of the idle RPM and I have to hold almost 1/2 throttle to make it start and keep running.

Hey guys, wanted to look into this mod myself, as I noticed JBradley500 had it at Scheid. Do the trucks having cold start issues also have the pump rotated to advance the timing more as well? Just wondering if I left my pump in stock position, how the cold starting would be? With my pump rotated currently, I don't have any issues with cold starting.

Sounds like this must work, if it is causing cold start issues due to advance!

I'm running pretty close to the same timing as jbradley.... I'm skipped a tooth, plus the spacer, with no ksb shims. But i'm also retarded about a 1/16" at the pump. It should be right about back at 22 degrees though with the other things.

I have no cold start issues when considering I don't have a grid heater, fuel heater, or ksb hooked up.

Mine is at stock timing now and I have the cold start issue. When I first put the timing device on, my gear was jumped a tooth and the engine ran like crap. Way too much timing for the setup I had.

I have one on my 91 and when I first start my truck I get a bad rough idle and injector knock for about 35 to 45 sec. then it will idle normal and the knock will go away. Also after cursing down the freeway some times when I exit and come to a stop the truck will idle rough until I shut it off and restart it.

If I un hook the KBS will that stop this from happening?
