And my question for dunes450r is similar. I understand that the turbos that you have listed are proven and reliable. Does that mean an s300g or similar s300 isn't proven or reliable? An s300g isn't a better turbo than the 60mm, hx35, or he351 for what i want it to do with 5x12s or 7x10s and my current upgrades?

Sorry for all the hassle guys. I am not opposed to any of the suggestions I just want to go the best route for me.

an s300g is a better turbo and it is proven and reliable, but it costs a lot more compared to others mentioned. the turbos i mentioned, including the hx40 (by what ellis93 has said) would do what you want to do for less money is all.
if you went with one of those injectors and tuned the pickup to tow well (meaning not going for all out fuel while towing) you would have very few if any problems i think with any and all turbos mentioned. the cheapest way to get there would be a stock style turbo, but there may be a little more to gain from an s300g

Personally I'm not a fan of the hx40.

If you are in a position for the super b or s300g (same turbo, diff. companies). An he351cw is your best budget turbo.... it flows more air and spools just as fast... however, the super b is a better turbo above 2200 rpms.

So basically chose between an he351cw which you can get used for 300-500 that requires some modifications to install.. which is the in it's happy zone from idle-2400ish rpm and at 0-30 psi boost (boosts well higher, just gets warmer)

Or the s300g which ranges from 1050-1400 new (except the 820 earlier stated, I've yet to confirm), but a bolt on except the down pipe is a 4" flange. Which is happiest from idle-3000rpms and 0-45 psi boost.

Not to step on toes here but there's a few things y'all aren't taking in consideration,or rather I don't think so.....
There's no way he will use over 30lbs of boost,I've only hit just before that pulling a hill one time. Then again alot might be driver controlled.
Second thing is if that much boost is pushed into that motor too many times,it'll chit the headgasket. That may not happen the first 3or 4 times but it will do it.
I really think that in towing for long periods, less is more.....meaning everything man made is going to fail, just how it is.....I'd rather have a turbo that's closer to stock that I could get parts for, another thing I thought about while I searched out turbos. Now I'm not saying that those other ones wouldn't last....where do you buy parts for it,how would you fix it on the side of the road broke down in bfe. Something closer to stock would at least have some sort of parts availability.

Here's some things I know. I have an HX35, a '94 intercooler, a Cummins low pressure piston lift pump, stock injectors, a turned up injection pump, a stock 3 speed auto tranny, and 3.07 rears. I think it tows fantastically and it hasn't melted. The stock non intercooled 4x.013" injectors should get horrible fuel economy and cause EGT issues, but I can prove both aren't the case. I consider a normal load 15k or so gross weight. That's one truck or tractor, or 100 and some bales of hay, or a loaded livestock trailer. In that weight scenerio, I'm really happy with how my truck performs. I'll get a chance to dyno it at the end of March, so I'll have some numbers to match my feelings then.

Now for some speculation. I'm pretty sure the S300G in question is a box stock turbo and if I were to bet, it's off of something like a C7 Cat. Common and thus cheap. I have no beef with those that mark one up $300 and make some money off of it, but they won't make money off of me. Same with the Super 40. It's a $6-800 turbo from an ISC, aka 24v 8.3L Cummins.

More speculation. Where are 190s in this conversation? Aren't they tried and true for mileage, power, AND EGTs?

Anyways, that's my hopefully coherent opinion on the subject.

Yes, the s300g and super 40 are box stock and therefore cheaper.

With some turbos, you'd be surprised the boost you'll hit.

With the he351cw, and 10k pounds... my truck at 50mph would be at a constant 30psi (darn close). This is why this turbo is soo good and yet bad for towing. It is obviously extremely cool becaue it is so easy to get somuch air out of it.

Now, this is where the s300 would shine and makes a better towing turbo (but depends on how much you wanna spend). The s300 would at the same fueling and load be probably a full 5-10 pounds of less boost, yet maintain very similiar or the same egts because it is allowing the motor to breath easier.

About 2 minutes after I posted the last thing, I realized that it came off that way.

I meant I haven't confirmed because, no matter who/what/where you hear something.. you always have to confirm, because prices change very often and especially good deals.

But no, I wasn't saying you were fibbin.

But I'm gonna call them today when I'm free from the phone. I'm curious to know if they have some 10 turbo buy in or something crazy.

Gottcha.

They're good to deal with. In 2010 I paid $739.95 or close for one from them.

Ok, turbo supply can "purchase a new one and sell it to a consumer for around $825"

So yes, you can buy an s300g for 825 bucks.

or you can have one remanned for 730 after a 345 core charge (don't see the advantage to that option)

what is your exhaust temp at 50mph and 30psi?

i just pulled a mini excavator 100miles round trip to help a friend, i weighed 14,300, my pickup weighs about 6100 so figure i'm towing 8k, at 60 mph on flat ground with POD's, H1C w/ 12cm ex housing, gutbag, 3.07's and 33's in 4th gear i was pulling 650*-700*, 6-7 psi boost. how is the 351 soooo much better that it makes 3-4x the boost pulling the same load? looks to me like it will run out room to boost as soon as you hit any hills?

yet i know that the 351 does flow more air than an h1c, so what is different causing you so much boost compared to me with similar loads?

You have less load on the motor with the given set up above (speed, gear, tire, etc.)

I pull that same boost/egt at 50mph unloaded (same with the wh1c I had, and hx35 that I had)

It's apples and oranges.

Did you actually weigh the load? Personally sounds awfully awfully low boost/egt for that load.
