Postby thefalloutcummins » Sat Apr 20, 2013 11:57 pm

OK guys here's whats going on i have a 1989 d250 i am as stock as can be except the freemods and 3200 rpm spring i had a problem where the truck was not getting over 62 mph so i decide to rebuild the ve pump so i did then it began to boggle down at 25mph then it feels like no power at all the truck dose not move or speed up just boggles down then dead nuthing then i have to bleed the lines and pump the lift pump and its a pain so today i took off the filter to see if that thing on top of it was the problem people say it can be removed but i have no clue how then the lift pump was taken off then dropped my tank after dropping my tank i found that the tank canister thing had a micron filter or some sort of filter for all i know my buddy who (used) to be a parts deal called it a sock but it was really dirty and the tank was clean but the out side of the tank is really dirty and the lines are rotted if any one has a suggestion would help most one more thing it sucks a tone of fuel out the filter and seems to be empty and the lines are dry but no fuel in the oil. i need this truck to get me to work or even just my buddy's house but i a not to high on cash and wont be for some time so i cant place and electrical pump at this time

What do you mean it bogs down then dies? Any smoke during this? If so what color smoke?

The fuel heater is removed using a very large screw driver. The nipple got the fuel filter has a slot in the end where you put the screw driver.

Sounds like an obstruction in the supply line or lift pump dieing. I would go ahead and install a draw straw and run 1/2" line to the lift pump. You can also pull the sock off the bottom of the pickup and blow regulated air threw the pickup and then remove your supply line from the lift pump and blow air threw it. You can throw a cheap stock lift pump on it and blow out your line from lift pump to injection pump.

not to be an ass, but use punctuation. makes it easy for some of us slow folks  . it sounds like you got your fuel supply problem fixed. did you make sure you got the injection timing set back to factory? a bump in timing wouldnt hurt. but if its retarded, it can cause problems. i pulled the pump top off a friends truck a while back. i pulled the pump away from the head (retarded timing) to get to everything easier. forgot to set it back and it didnt want to start at all. when it did start and you snapped the throttle, it would load up and smoke a greyish color.

sorry about my punctuation i was not to good in english class. well as far as timing thats been something that i have been having a hard time with. i am not to sure how to time the motor i hear you need a special tool for that. but i am not sure i have not had time lately with work and not being home. i do plan on being home some time this week. i am still new to this this is my first truck and i know that if its not a dark smoke color its a fuel ratio mix with air i assume. but i would like some more information with the timing its important that its at T.D.C for the motor and valves to be in sync.
