Piston lift pump finally

Postby cougar » Sat May 25, 2013 3:04 pm

After sitting on the shelf for a year, finally got round to installing the low pressure piston lift pump. What a pain, took about 3 hours to do. Guess that's what happens when you get fat and old. Had to take the hood off, throttle cable bracket, and moved the dip stick tube and wiring harness out of the way. I was about ready to remove the master cylinder. All this just to cut away the insulation on the valve lifter cover. Scraping away the old gasket was a lot of fun too. Bought the Delphi pump, we'll see how long it hold up. If I have to replace it and/or do the 92 I'll use a high volume with a low pressure spring. There are some out there now.
RIP 91.5 W250 5 speed. The great experiment.

I was thoroughly impressed when I took the test run around the block the first time with my piston pump. I had a brand new stock LP previously to boot.

I've only noticed a slightly better throttle response, nothing note worthy.

Maybe the non-IC's injectors make it more dramatic. It pulled hard until it ran out of gear with my 727.

Same here....... I actually noticed WAY better throttle response.

Cougar...... your lift pump doesn't push much (if any) over 10 psi, not that you need more.....but I noticed that any time I increased psi I noticed throttle response.....up to about 12ish psi.

Most my customers (99%) notice increased throttle response.

I have a 3 inch body lift and no gap guards...... I can literally take my inj. pump off without opening the hood (ok minus taking the inj. lines off the injectors.).

It still took me probably an hour to get the damn thing on. It's a pain in the butt to get the bolts started.

Wow......y'all are too funny  that little job doesn't even register on the difficulty scale with me. I work on to many foreign jobs to think this job is hard :? Try starting the bolts in a Honda vtec solenoid flange...that job will drive you insane

I work on little airplanes, I know what pain and suffering can be. This was easy compared to some "simple" aircraft work I've done, like changing a support clamp.

Well, poo. Sucking in air somewhere. Wouldn't start and had to bleed the filter and injectors to get him going. There is a short section of hose to the pump I should replace. And of course, being a holiday weekend everyone is closed.
