Injector issues....snow balled into.....something else

Postby ellis93 » Wed Nov 13, 2013 6:11 pm

Looks like I'll be pimping my 7x10s again, thinking I've a seeping weeping frankin-injector. Truck has been working a little hard here lately and this morning was no exception. I had to go get some cows loaded and at the sell barn by 7:30.....and woke up late :( . This meant hooking to the trailer and hauling as much a$$ as possible to load 5cows and cover 50miles in less than 1 1/2hrs. Everything went smoothly hooking and loading, and even the ride wasn't bad. Problem came when I fired it back off after unloading and doing paper work. It fired up with no unusual hiccup, just a blue cloud and take off found it puffing, belching blue clouds. No felt miss,no unusual vibs......just a puffing blue cloud that tends to clear after it runs for a few minutes.
Do y'all have any other suggestions? Reckon I'm on the right path :) ?

Usually.......and I do mean usually (not always). An injector issue is consistent. It usually doesn't come and go.

That's common for us up here in Idaho, as it is cold.

So possible issues (in my mind). Injector, low compression, cold fuel, cold engine, or any other issue that can cause a poor burn.

Bad valve seals. It would explain where your oil is going too.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

So when you fire it back up it is smoking and then goes away?

Our injectors can't really bleed off. Our lines don't remain pressurized.

All of a sudden tho? I'd figure that would be a progressive thing.

Yeah gigantic blue plumes of smoke. Ridiculous amounts of smoke.

I would figure some would stay in the lines Eric, otherwise these trucks wouldn't start as fast. The pump would have to prime the lines every time you went to start it. I'm not thinking of erroneous amounts of residual pressure.

Which is true... fuel stays in the lines. What I'm saying though is, if that is happening one injector would have to be stuck open or partially stuck open.... which should present with the blue/hazy/smoke at all times of driving a long with a little bit of a miss at least.

However........when the 7x10s go back in, it should change if it is injectors.

When was the last time you checked your turbo/downpipe?

pull the turbo and see if there is oil in the exhaust manifold. id even start it without a turbo on it and see what happens. could be the seals in the turbo.

If it is an injector issue.........send them back to me and I'll have them gone through.

If it's fuel it sounds like an injector stuck open, looks like it too from the smoke. I think you need some bigger injectors! ;)
