Checked my friends new 2008 6.4 F-350 dually 4x4 and it looks like it has a 1410 series front drive shaft. The F-550 at work also has one and they are both a bit longer.

Update; Looks like the stock front yoke on 1st gens is only a 1310. The front cv is a 1350.
Brian you sure that was a 1410 you found. I am starting to 2nd guess myself as I thought I measured the F-550 at work correctly.
I went to Ford today and asked for a front shaft for a F-550 and the one he handed me had 1350 joints at both ends but the shaft itself is significantly bigger than a 1st gen. It measured 41.5" long, big end was 2.75" dia., little end 1.75" dia. and had about 2.5" of travel.
The flange end of the Ford shaft is threaded where as the flange on the 205 has the threads.

Might be getting a little closer to finding one.
Would you happen to know if that was a manual transmission?
All the autos I have found so far are 1350 for the Fords.

Went to QUAD 4x4's site and learned the front u-joints in our 1st gens are 7260 (close to a 1310) except 93 which went to the bigger 7290 (close to a 1350) and the cv are similar but a little smaller than 1350's.

Part numbers for the Ford front driveshafts I've found are 5C3Z-4A376-F for the 1350 automatics.
The 5C3Z-4A376-E is for the manuals, which I have not run across yet.
Brian, you got part numbers for the 1350 and 1410 yoke size for the front D60 and how about a 1480 for a D80 and D70 rear?

Why Different Sizes?

Postby Ace » Wed Feb 06, 2008 3:53 pm

I wonder why they used smaller joints on the front. Wouldn't there be plenty of situatons where you'd get more traction in front, due to the weight of the engine? I'd think they should have used all 1410s or possibly even bigger up front.

More weight when emty yes but, if you are using 4x4 the power is now split where as the rear most of the time handles all the power.
If your in a situation where you had to back out of something because your stuck, definately easier to break the front.
Will for sure do a 1410 on the front yoke; they are stronger and have more operating angle.
The stock 7260 joint is tiny.

driveline vibration

Postby garywj » Wed Feb 06, 2008 9:08 pm

Do any of you have a vibration that starts at about 45 mph till about 55 or so? would that be the drive shafts? I get one that seems to come up from under the seat...shakes the whole truck....it's not bad, but noticeable. My tires are new, and my tranny has been recently rebuilt, so I'm wondering what it might be? Doesn't matter whether i am in two wheel or four wheel drive. Same sthi.....

I would guess worn out u-joints.
Park it on a level surface, shut engine off, block the wheels then release the e-brake cable and put tranny in neutral. Crawl under it and check for slop in the joints.
Is yours a regular or ext. cab?

Those are just boots to cover the spline joint. Check for slop in those too.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Not getting anywhere so far.
All the cv and yokes I have run across at the Ford dealer have been 1350 cv and yokes.
Been looking under and measuring every 350, 450 and 550 I can find..no luck.
I doubt that shaft you found still has tag on it eh Brian?
The dealer says a vin number would insure the right shaft.
I will continue looking but if someone else finds one, let me know.

The one i have came from the Ford truck plant where they build the Super duty. It came off a frame and axle assembly. I was told the body mounts were on the frame in the wrong place so they scrapped it. Maybe it was experimental instead?? do you know the Pinion spline size and number on the Dana60 I can look up the 1410 or 1480 yoke if you do, otherwise I will have to research that to find the yoke.

Thanks for the info. I will keep looking.
I will get the spline count one of these days and let you know.
I will be around the 550 at work next week so I can double check the size.

High Angle has one that looks very similar to what I have.

I would call them and see if they can't fix you up. No doubt it would be more money than a junkyard special, but you could get it no problem. High Angle has very good service and product knowledge. They also have the yokes you are looking for. 8)

That's It!

There now, that stuff's the real deal! No worries breaking anything up front with those joints. Why do they say the CV is not for street use? :(
