I've always heard sealer then primer, paint, and clear

Usually primer and paint are chemically different. Keeping them separate opens up a lot more options for the color coat.

Why would you seal a bare metal when it's a primer's job to fill and smooth the surface?

There is......I've ran across them in my hunt for supplies.

Still haven't found weather I like silver or satin black best tho

Why not do both? Paint the hood satin black, and the rest silver. Then it'll be like the old muscle cars

Say you put the sealer on before the primer. You are all but guaranteed to sand through both when trying to get the primer flat. Point defeated.

Ellis, I used Metal Lock primer. It's an epoxy and I mixed it in such a way that it served as a primer/sealer. It's tough as nails, you can lay it on heavy without runs, and it builds very well. I'd highly recommend it.

Both will work, but the pre-mix sealer made by the same manufacturer of the paint your spraying will be best
and cheapest, that epoxy primer is pricey.

what I do is...get all the filler work done, then spray on a few coats of 3M high build primer and wet block sand
between each coat with 400g, when it looks good I get ready to paint, spray the sealer on...let it flash...then
the base color....then the clear.

you can use multi brands together but I always feel safer using reducer, activator, base, and clear all from the same brand.
