My head is off apparently tonight, not sure which band is giving you a fit, but . . .

Which band is giving you a fit?

The rear band was resisting me before I figured it out. I had to put the strut in without the drum installed.

caleb, the 904 and 727 always got the band put in before the drum, while the trannies went down the assembly line. I have had some struts that were difficult to get in with the drum installed. The main advantage of a 47 over the 727-518-46rh is the double wrap L&R band, no anchor and apply linkage, the lever applies directly on a protrusion of the band.

Thanks for setting me straight Tom.

I have a shift kit here waiting. I'll likely install it this evening.

Zing! There goes the detent ball.

I need to take the VB out of my spare to see how they go together anyway. There was all kinds of black slime in it.

For whatever reason, I didn't have a #9 check ball. I'm 99.9% sure that I didn't drop it because I disassembled the VB the right way. Fortunately I don't need it because the shift kit I have replaces one of the other balls. #9 softens the engagement of Low or Reverse. I know my 727 really bangs into reverse.

Any one know anything about this?

Its optional. I believe if your separator plate has 2 holes you can use a check ball if it has 1 you don't need it. Does your new separator plate from transgo have 2 holes or one?? I don't think you can use it if it only has one hole as that is the only way for oil to go.

You are correct.

I just do as the Kit instructions say solely because someone designed it to function a certain way with this number of parts.......add or subtract said number of parts and your subject to screw yourself.

When I don't really know what I'm doing, I follow the instructions. FWIW if I intended to plow and modded the VB accordingly, I'm have drilled a hole in the separator plate and put a check ball in the #9 spot.

And I have a 47RH VB for some reason. I have provisions for all the lock-up stuff, except the solenoid. Funny.

I also don't have the converter clutch valve spring and converter clutch timing valve and spring, but that all doesn't matter because I don't have a locking converter.

I probably spent 10 minutes looking for my converter clutch valve.

Tentative install date: Monday March 17.

I'll do an R and R in the morning, get a driveshaft made at lunch, button it all up, say a prayer, and roll on.
