Cat turbo?

Hey guys, has anyone used a caterpillar turbo on their truck? i have acess to a turbo out of a cat 955 traxcavator. I was told the motor is a D330. its a 4 cyl. does anyone know what turbo this would have, and would it be a good upgrade from stock?

Ok, from what i found it is a garrett T1210?

the number on it from cat is 7s5739

anyone know anything about this?

Just depends on the wheel sizes. A lot of the bigger cats run s300 series turbos, but not sure about a 4cyl. Find a part number on it and you can find the specs.

Ok, from what i have found the turbo is a T1210, but i cant find any info on it. does anyone know anything about it?

Cat 955 are not new machines, I don't know exactly, but a D330 should be somewhere between 350 and 400 cubic inches.

What size inlet is on that turbo?

I dont even know, a friend of myne just told me he had one and i could get the turbo off it if i wanted. Ill see if i can find out.

turbo's are generally sized to the volume of air running in and out of them , not the number of cylinders .

400 cubic inche engines exhaust is pretty much the same in 4 , 6 or 8 cylinder engines , the main difference being more cylinders = smoother exhaust pulses

i have found that most of the turbos in the core yard that came from heavy equipment have huge ex housings and small compressor wheels and housings. if you want a good cat turbo try findin one from a 2003-4 c-7 most are a 64-71 s300 but for some reason have been hard to find lately

Apparently you've never seen a D7 with a 831 cubic inch 4 cylinder. 5.75x8 bore and stroke.

well i guess your 4 cly are difrent from ours, we have a couple 4cly and the exaust housing fits in the palm of my hand, and the compressor isnt much bigger

i could be wrong

but when you have a 4cly it only has some much exhaust coming out of it and a six has more, it seams like a waste to me to but a small turbo on a bigger engine, your wasting energy doing that
