Parker, we have had 3 at this house, my wife has had 2...an 89 we sold with 189k and a 2001 60th anniversary we bought new, traded it with only 39k for my first diesel, a 97 CC dually 5 spd, they were both pretty good, the 89 I dropped the pan and put new rod bearings and oil pump at 169k from low pressure, the 2001 was still pretty much new.
my boy had a 99 we put a new 4.0 in and he commenced destroying on many drunken mudding trips, so that don't really count.
we liked the 2001 but when I got the wife to agree to drive a dually 5spd as a grocery getter I was like YEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAA and I traded the next day before she could change her mind.

the only real problem with a 4.0 is head gasket issues and they are pretty easy to work on.
