Injector questions

Postby oldestof11 » Tue Mar 18, 2008 4:42 pm

OK, now I am being industrious and going to build up a truck performance shop and wanting to do some things to make the VE more capable. So injectors are in the line up.

When we say 6x20 do we mean 6 holes at .20" size or 6 holes at .020" size?

Also, what is better? EDM's or something a little more precise? Laser?

Also, the injector spray angle, how do I find that out?

Thanks!
Jon

Jon, .25 is 1/4 of an inch. So 6 x 1/4 inch is a big hole! It's .020, 20 thousandths of an inch.
Philip had a pic someplace of a tip with needles stuck in it, showing the angle. I don't know how to figure it.

Ya Pete, I was a little confused and that is why I thought thousandths but you never know. People have said the VE wont ever make HP but we are going to prove them wrong.

Thanks

Ok Cumminsking, that is another thread ;)

But I want to make injectors, Hot Rod Ve's and fuel line kits, head porting and polishing, transmissions, fabbing twins, lift kits and tires, gauges, etc. Also I will be dealing with the 6.9L Ford. I know, not enough power, right? Hmm....http://www.diesel-central.com/forums/de ... opicID=270

After reading that, I know the 6.9L, the 7.3L and the VE are all capable of making HP, now to market to those group of people. They are plentiful and not too many companies want to dabble with them.

Of course, the diesel repair shop would be the bread and butter part until the performance side of things pick up. Also, while the poor fool who comes to the shop and has his truck fixed, he will be hearing from me "You know, a little fuel goes a long way....""Did you know this tyoe of engine made xxx hp just a few months ago..." Nothing like a captive audience while you fix their truck

So those are the plans.

dude. i don't mean to burst your bubble. but if you thought an injector tip had 1/4 inch holes in it, i would question you running a perforance shop. what kinda mechanical back round do you have? it would suck to get in over your head on something like this
86' GMC 3500 (cummins swap: hx40, POD's, I/C 5" exhaust) , custom 4-link front end, about 9-inchs of lift, dana 60 4.56s welded/ 14-bolt, 4.56s detroit. grooved 38.5 x16 TSLs, custom frt/Rr bumpers, 16.5 super sinlge welds

in his defence 6x20 is a wrong messurement, we use it for short instead of 6x 0.002, so i could see how sombody could get confused, we all have to learn, when i first started i couldnt tell the difrence from non ic and ic

I have never physically seen a injector tip, just pics. So whenever I have seen 6x20, I think .020. But I could have been wrong. I am known to be wrong and was just clarifying.

AS for mechanical back ground, I have help rebuild quite a bit of gas engines, not diesels. Like most of us, diesels are new and takes sometime learning from them.

Up until last Febuary 07, I thought the DMax had the record for HP. Was I ever wrong...
