I took it to a machine shop - we destroyed three tools before we gave up

The rockwell on this gear is horrendous, and appears to be all the way thru not just a surface treatment

We didnt even scratch it with carbides, and an experiemtn with a little brake hone didnt touch it either

its only like .0019 we need to remove

I will try to check the rockwell hardness of te gear.

Take the gear to an automotive machine shop that can resize rods. A rod hone machine dosent compare to a brake caliper hone. It will be able to remove the .0019 you need for sure.

I dont know yet I havent weighted it. Yes I want to rent it in the future but I have to build a protective box first. Shipping to and from New Mexico would be quite expensive.

No, I am not going to knife the crank, but it is being balanced.

You have to be carefull with knifing the crank using stock (heavy) pistons and rods. If you take too much off the throws you have to spend big bucks on mallory metal to get it to balance internally. It's a good idea to put an oil shedding high tech coating on the throws though... A windage tray would be good too.
