help if you can

Postby mikcon » Tue May 06, 2008 11:33 am

I have a 91 non-ic motor I put in a 1998 ram (was a 360 blew up had the 91 motor already)
I have mated a 47rh out of a 95 with lock up and od.
I will put those on a switch so not a prob.
My questions are:
Should this motor have a tps? it does not but why would i need it.

Anyone have pics and info on the sensors on the motor ie temp, oil pressure, rpm. I would like to tie into the dash and need to know if they are sweeping type or just dummy lights.

charging system?? not sure if I am going to try to tie it in or use the existing harness and modify it to fit the older alternator?

Any help would be great.
Thanks

The gauges on the 91 were the sweeping type. Someone else can tell you if they will work in your 98 or not. If all else fails, get the sensors for the 98, and make them work, either bolt in, or with adaptors.

If you have switches for OD and lockup, I see no reason to run a TPS- that only complicates things. Just get your tach wired in, and keep the RPMs at a reasonable level. The TPS controlled OD and nothing else in the intercooled trucks.

The alternator should retrofit to the newer style regulation (PCM). That's up to you if you want to run it through the PCM or not. some have had good luck with the external regulator; others have had PCMs fail. I've had issues with both types, so it's a real crapshoot.

Good luck.

Was this a 3/4- 1ton, or are you stuffing it in a 1/2ton?

I hope he isn't out looking at his bent 44 as I type this........

I wonder if the 44 would hold a cummins anyway. Mine holds a 8' plow, for 200,000 miles...........

dodgetkboy78.................What are you talking about.
As for the 1/2 ton no I have a 2500 lifted 4x4 just using what I have.
I have thought about a 1500 2wd conversion...but most likley I will just shorten my 98 2500 2wd I have now.
BIG 215 pump and lots more would be fun to stuff into a shorty.
I just used a Chevy one wire on my cummins rat rod and it works great, maybe I will just go that way again.
Thanks,
Mike

The 1/2 ton trucks have Dana 44 front ends, not Dana 60's like the 3/4 ton and 1 tons. Thats what he was referring to. Everyone kind of assumed it was a 1/2 ton when you said it had a 360 in it.
