500hp

Postby redneckroot » Thu Nov 06, 2008 7:21 pm

I was told that I need to be running close or over 500hp to compete in the "Stock" truck pulling class. So after lots of reading here is what I have come up with but I'm not sure what else I need to do to be in the ballpark.
1. Headwork, fire rings and studs
2. 6x.16 injectors anyone know a good place to get them?
3.Turbo? which one? has to be 3" and smaller inlet to be legal
4. electric fuel pump
5. 60lb valve springs anyone know a good place to get them?

I'm not sure what I need to do to the injection pump, but I've decided to stay with the VE and piss the dmax guys off. I'm still new to the diesel world and only really know what I have read. So please keep descriptions simple enough for me to understand them. Thanks.

I'm not trying to let the air out of your baloons, but that might not be a reachable goal. You're gonna need a pretty healthy 14mm with good fuel supply system to get the fuel for 500rhp. Your problem is going to be air. You'll need a lot more air than what you can run in a "stock" class. "Stock" also means no spraying it too. Your 500 goal is definatly within reach. I'm just not sure about running it in a stock class.

3 inch inlet? Do you mean the intercooler pipes or the intake where the air box hooks up?

the inlet side of the turbo can be a max size of 3".
If I have to do pump mods then so be it, but I don't know what I have to do or even where to get started. Any help is appreciated.

Well when you look at a stock class, my 05 cummins, with exhaust, intake, and programmer can make some pretty good power, to run with trucks like that my 90 needs to be within the same range. Thats what I'm trying to go for without breaking the rules.

3 inch. Sounds like you are stuck with the baby H1C. Even the intercooled first gens have a 4 inch air intake. I got rid of the small H1C on my 89 because it would not support much fuel.

3" is the smallest size of the compressor wheel or bore. That's about a 76mm wheel.

That makes more sense. I was caught up on 3 inch " inlet "

I'm wrong in what I said. bgilbert is right about the compressor wheel.

I just talked to the local diesel performance shop and he told me "you can't make 500hp with a rotary pump" But I know some of you are well over that so I'm stuck again on what do I need to do.

Run in a 2.6 class. The 3.0 classes are gonna eat you alive! Both physically and financially LOL

Ya a p-pump in a 3.0 class will still make huge hp because its fine to run at 4000rpm. For us rotary guys our power seems to happen much lower no matter what we do. The 2.6 class would also help in that the smaller charger will spool faster which is what are trucks love.

O ring, Stud, Port, 60lb Spring, Upgrade Valve seals, Cam shaft, Upgraded intercooler and piping, pull the grid heaters, 64/71/14 turbo(or 62mm, what ever is legal), 4" exaust, upgraded fuel pump, 1/2" lines, 14mm head and rotor in injection pump, fuel pin, big edm sticks (6-16, 6-18), and trans that can take the abuse preferably with a lock-up converter, and a locker in the front and rear diffs.

That should give you aprox 500whp in a serious pulling truck that should compete in most of the local 2.6 class events. Now I know that some of those things arent really allowed in stock class but can you really tell? (like injectors and IP mods) :D

Well this is what I was just told when asked what would be running: "most of the trucks that show up have programmers and exhaust that run on the road towing trailers daily"

So this shouldn't be a super modified class. They are trying to get guys starting out interested in it. But I want to be able to do well pulling against the newer trucks.

What do I need to be able to install the 14mm head in my pump? How do you do it? I have a few guys that work on diesels for a living that can help me but they are all P-pump guys.

Buy a 14mm h/r from rocken tech. Toss it on with some large injectors. You will also need a large lift pump and fuel lines to help support the extra fuel.

I say 6X.018's, Stock Charger in a 16cm housing or larger, Maxed pump, Electric Lift pump, 1/2" lines and NOS. Put an Edge sticker on the NO2 bottle and call it the 1stgen Edge Juice! LOL
