What will it take?

Postby MudSlinger79 » Tue Feb 10, 2009 7:19 pm

I am wondering what will it take to get in the 600 hp range? I have a HTB2 66mm inducer turbo, new era 435's, a big ass intercooler, 3200 spring with afc mia and pump cranked. I know i will need head studs to hold the pressure but what else would i need? Thanks

14mm head and rotor, twins or nitrous, bigger injectors. All of the guys who have made more than 500hp with a VE pump have run twins, 6x.016 or 6x.018 injectors, and a 14mm head and rotor in the injection pump. I'm guessing that porting the head (along with head studs and o-rings) will be necessary, plus porting the exhaust manifold (whether stock or aftermarket 3-piece). Lots of tuning and the previously mentioned electric fuel pump (Aeromotive A1000 or bigger).

Everyone I know of in the 500-600rwhp range is running twins and a 14mm H/R. (Well, JAyers made 501rwhp on a single I believe...)

Lets say what would it take to make a solid 500 hp?

Exactly what SChandler already stated:

"14mm head and rotor, twins or nitrous, bigger injectors. All of the guys who have made more than 500hp with a VE pump have run twins, 6x.016 or 6x.018 injectors, and a 14mm head and rotor in the injection pump. Lots of tuning and the previously mentioned electric fuel pump (Aeromotive A1000 or bigger)."

That is exactly what you need. The 66mm you have would/will get you into the 500+hp range but it will be a little laggy unless you do the porting. I run a 64/71/14 and dont find it laggy at all but I also have the porting and cam to help out. A manual trans with REALLY good clutch or a lock-up trans/converter would also help you lay down some good numbers. Follow the above advice and you should make your 500+hp goal.

Please don't use nitrous. It's a disgrace to the Cummins.

Nitrous is at home on Diesels, baby. It's many times safer, cheaper and more effective than on a gasoline motor.

I'm not too sure about truck engines.... but in the tractor world the first thing a lot of people do is to over bore the block. hows come I don't hear any of that??? There might be a very good reason I don't know. I am just curious.

I'd say a 14mm h/r, big fuel system, and 6x16s should get you close to 500. Don't forget the head studs 8)

Whatever, just talk to bgilbert. How much work did it take you to make 523hp? How much were the injectors?

500hp is a huge milestone. Most guys with a 14mm H&R and a single can hardly break 450hp. Plain old edm's won't make the cut and that 66 will make a nice 400hp with your 435's and a good fuel supply. Just max out your pump and run it.

If the cost of the 66 is enough reason to "get your use out of it" then you may as well settle at 400hp and save your money. 500hp is a ton of work and 600 is even more.

can you put a 14mm h/r in a daily driver or will it eat my pump? what is the necessity in the 4mm cam plate?
