3/8" Fuel System Questions

Postby RSWORDS » Fri Feb 27, 2009 1:54 pm

Getting ready to pull the trigger on my 3/8" fuel system and have some questions...

Here is were I'm at so far...
Got a draw straw...
http://www.vulcanperformance.com/Draw-S ... p/dsii.htm

Got a Walbro 392 and 20' of 3/8" Fuel line.

What kind of fitting (thread size) should I get for the pump? Any GOOD pics?

I need to get a pre-filter for the pump seeing as how I am going to lose the sock in the tank. Any Ideas? Some sort of screen is what I need I guess...

Also I'm by-passing the stock pump. I have a SBC fuel pump block off plate and I've heard it will work but would anything be hurt by just leaving the stocker in with out the lines hooked up? Would it burn up or something?

Gonna run this off a relay. Is there a key on power source under the hood I can use to trigger the relay?

Any other tips? Gonna start on this next week and would like to have everything I need.

thanks!!!

You're gonna need a regulator for the return line off the Walbro.

just use the ignition wire under the column to trigger your relay. I actually use it to trigger a relay to turn on a bunch of relays on my truck. lol.

I would lose the stock filter and get something bigger/better/more flow as long as you are basically redoing the whole fuel delivery system anyway. Otherwise you are still pushing fuel through 5/16" lines, even smaller passages where it flows through the manifold and a pretyy small 10um filter itself. You would have to either adapt some sort of clamp-on fitting for the existing lines or get banjo barbs or bango flare adapters for hard lines for the stock filter. Don't know where to get those. Parker probably makes something that will thread in there and seal with one of those rubber/brass washers like comes in the big line kits.

The Wix 33411 I'm running is rated at 5um nominal, screws into a head with 1/2" ports and will easily flow more fuel than anyone will ever burn in a 5.9:

Alright... Gonna tackle this this weekend...

I'm coming out of the fuel tank with a Draw-Straw pre-Filter just before the Walbro which will be within the first 2 or 3 feet of the line. Then the fuel pressure regulator then I have a filter/water seperator then going to this port on the injection pump...

Is this correct? What size fitting is that in the top of the pump?
Any other sugestions?

Thanks!

I can't actually help on size, but I have a suggestion. My buddy put on an Airdog, and the fitting they gave him was a 90* that screwed directly into the pump. Take that adapter out, put in the 90, and it should stay below the throttle lever. Then the rest of the plumbing went from there.
He did tell me what size and thread the hole was, but I don't remember.

Switch the order on the regulator and the filter.

Thanks Pete, Thats what I was thinking of doing. Do your remember if it is a normal NPT size or something odd?

I believe it is a 12mm fitting. If not it will be a 14mm.

Metric straight thread. 12 or 14 like Fergavs said. I think it's 12mm, but don't hold me to that.

So do they make an adaptor that uses those threads or must I get creative?
