Soft brakes

Postby 90FIRSTGEN CUMMINS » Tue Aug 11, 2009 6:21 pm

This past weekend i was hauling one of my farm tractors back from a show and there is a really step hill comming out of the show grounds. As i went down the hill at a low speed i noticed my brake pedal went really far down and the lights on the dash came on. Anyone know what would cause this.

Blew a brake line or the ABS valve screwed up.

the funny thing is once i got back on the road it seemed the brakes came right back but at the low idle was the only time it was like that.

Lost vacuum? Booster going south? Maybe check for vacuum leaks...

I'd think a bad booster/ low vacuum would just make the pedal hard, not necessarily make the pedal low or soft. I could be wrong......

My money is on the ABS or master cylinder.

NEW or reman? Remans are junk, and I havent had any luck with brands other than Bendix.

With the AntiStop Brakes, the dump valve cen get stuck about half open, and you fill the accumulator, giving a low, mushy pedal.

I am trying to remember if the RWAL had a G sensor in the control box. If there is, it may interpret down hill as a potential lock up.
