93 D350 Smokes at idle, never stops

Postby chico_mustangs » Tue Nov 10, 2009 3:33 pm

I have a 1993 D350 12v dually with an automatic tranny. I have had this truck for about a year now, all of a sudden about 2 months ago the truck started smoking at idle, its not blue smoke its kinda blackish blue. The pump was turned up along with an aftermarket fuel pin about 10 months ago, I turned the pump back down, removed the fuel pin and its still the same. For the last 4 months or so I have been running a mixture of diesel and motor oil in the tank, I have since switched back to just diesel for the last 3 tanks with no improvement. The truck has never leaked or burnt oil. I noticed when the truck started smoking 2 of the injectors have a slow leak around them, its more of a seapage, you can't stand there and watch them leak but you see fresh diesel after you have driven it around. I am wondering if maybe their was foreign material in the motor oil I put into the fuel, got past the filter, and damaged one of the injectors maybe making it stick open. Any ideas would GREATLY be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

if the idle seems a little rough then it could be a dirty injector. some guys around here have been running wmo in thier 7.3 non turbo fords. they have been runnin into problems similar to your an have had to replace injectors

Too bad you didn't start using the WMO a long time ago before the ULSD took it's toll. If it's not bad injectors, then the VE's worn. Maybe both.

ULSD= ultra low sulfur diesel and WMO is waste motor oil. I dont see why everyone is sayin ulsd is destroying pumps. My VE trucks run on it with no problems. My test pump ran on it until I rebuilt it and everything looked new on the inside. All of our tractors run on it with no probs.

Well it turned out that the diesel and WMO I had in the tank either didn't mix or I had a LOT more oil in the tank then diesel. 3 tanks ago I drove it around to the point where I had 1/2 gallon or less of fuel in it, filled up an no more smoke thank god! So I have since started putting about 1-2 gallons on motor oil when I fill up and no smoke issues. Thanks for all of the help guys!!!

Mine doesn't seem to like synthetic WMO.. Doesn't show up right away, but usually about 2 tanks later, then takes forever to go through the system .

On a road trip I will throw a gallon or just shy of a gallon into a tank just before filling. Usually don't run it when I'm in town... might try some soon, we shall see. Just that I had the 3 gallons I drained out of the '03 ... Amsoil, and once before it did the same thing, so the stuff must be good and doesn't want to burn nicely after 20k + miles on it.

I may have to try that when my 5x18's go in. No AFC, 5x18's, and a mix of 50% WVO, WMO, and bio. Oh my god....

in my experience the WMO just makes the smoke blacker.doesn't really change the volume of smoke.Unless things have gone wrong.
