Turning it up

Postby 92 cummins » Thu Nov 26, 2009 8:25 pm

I have a 92 cummins, and i have a 4in exhaust, K&N air filter, and a fuel pin. Its just for show, i dont pull or race it, i get it out on a sunny day and just cruise around town. I've been wanting some more power and some more smoke. And i was just wandering how many turns i could make on the fuel screw without hurting the truck. PLEASE HELP!

Most guys go to where the rpm's start floating and back a half turn of. Your fuel screw may or may no be long enough to get there. You'll know. Trust me. Be ready with a board to clap the turbo shut whenever you screw around with the fuel screw. Runaway will happen faster than you can do anything but kill the motor. If you don' have a way of shutting the truck off...you'll be unhappy.

There was a collage in northern B.C. where the teacher for the Heavy Duty Mechanics course wanted to show his students what happens in a runaway. They defeated the rig-saver, and took this Detroit stand engine out into a field and just let the thing go. I heard that the end result was quite spectacular.
