do we 1st gen guys have to worry about the dreaded killer dowel pin? its been taken care of on my 98 but not my 90.
98 3500, 5sp, dpp 90's, 10 plate, 4k springs, sb fe. totalled
90 d250 727, stock for now, coming soon: trans swap from a '95 2nd gen, 366 spring, m&h m5, custom crossover plumbed for a little w/m and n2o

Yes.

Not as much though.


As spoken by everybody I've ever heard talk about it.
1990 D-250 Regular Cab: Tweaked injection pump, built transmission, a cataclysmic charlie foxtrot of electronics, the most intense street-ran water injection system in the country, and some more unique stuff.

We need to worry more about the bolts that hold the case on. They come loose and fall into the gears too. Pull the cover, tab or stake the KDP, pull the case bolts, brake clean, loctite, then reinstall. The ones behind the cam gear you can't get out, just make sure they're tight.

When I did my cam I found the 3 bolts behind the cam gear finger tight...

I just did the KDP in my '97 today. Glad I didn't wait any longer, it was out an 1/8 of an inch. Kinda scary when you pull the cover and right off you can see it's sticking out there. :shock:
But my bolts were tight. Sorta.

You guys are scaring me again........ :shock: my truck has 370K, and more time idling than driving........ The cover has never been off.....

Awww geee, thanks Tim, I will sleep good knowing my KCB and KDP are falling out, busting my timing case, snapping my cam, murdering my oil pump, and putting shavings in my oil!

No it's not! I didn't know about mine and I was all worried, so I tore it apart. I'm glad I did. :shock:
