Front Pump Seal

Well I have teh whole front of teh truck torn off to swap in a I/C'ed front end and figure while its off I'll make my life easy. Gonna do the KDP, Jump a tooth or two on the pump, and take care of the pumps front seal.

I got teh first two down, but being as how I have never even SEEN teh front seal i have not a clue. I think i want to machine it and put in a snap ring. Anyone have any pictures?

I added a pic to my profile on dtr. Ill post a link to the pic once its approved.

What specs do you want to know? Cut a grove just past where the seal sits. Cut it thick enough for the snap ring you will use. Buy a snap ring with a large enough diameter to fit into the grove.

Youll see in the pic its really quite simple.

How far down did you pull teh pump to get it machined. Obviously the seal had to come out. I know nothing about machining.

How well does the locktite hold? I am leaning towards the snap ring just so I can pull it apart if I have to one day without dealing with teh loctite.

The pump has to come all the way apart. Totally. You need to pull the shaft, and then clean it when the machine work is done. I've heard that loose metal in the IP might be bad. ;)

The loctite is still a good idea to help "seal" the seal in place. Then the snap ring keeps it from popping out. My pump was completely disassembled when the groove was cut because the fuel inlet machining was also done.

In all reality, how hard is it for a weekend mechanic to take apart and rebuild a pump?

Do you have to machine the seal pocket deeper? To make room for the snap-ring? On the pumps I have had apart, there didn't appear to be room.
