air compressor vacuum

Postby grumpy365 » Thu Jan 28, 2010 10:45 pm

I have a Haldex/Midland air compressor and I am teying to figure out how to use this as my vacuum pump as well as on board air. :?
I will also need to mount some kind of power steering pump behind my compressor.

If anyone has done this, or knows how to go about it I would apprecaiate thier input.

THANKS

Most of the compressors used on the 5.9's in industrial stuff had the capability to mount something on the back, like the PS pump.
If you send a PM to jensenkennels I'm pretty sure he used a compressor like that on his monster he's building.

I don't think you can use it for both air and vacuum though, it needs flow to build air pressure, and for vacuum it needs to draw from a closed system.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I FINALY GOT IT, jensenkennels is using the Vanco Hydroboost to do away with the need for vacuum. (I am a dumbass for not seeing it sooner)

I would think that there would be some way to use a relief valve to have the compressor draw so much vacuum, and then draw outside air after that?

If you're using hydroboost, then I would just use a little 12 volt pump for the HVAC doors and valve. Is there anything else vacuum powered?

Think a compressor could work as a crankcase scavanger?

It could, but do you want to suck all that oil fumes thru your compressor?

Grumpy, that's right, I forgot how he did it. I need to go over and see what progress he's made. It's an awesome truck. 8)
