Intake sensors

Postby 93DodgeCummins » Tue Feb 23, 2010 5:56 pm

i have a 1993 Dodge Cummins. My friend has a 1999 Dodge 24V and he replaced the Intake sensors and he had a big power gain. The intake sensors on my 93 are very similar to his. Should i replace them?

Our intake sensors are just to tell the PCM for grid heater usage and KSB usage. If both are working properly. No need to replace them.

im pretty sure the only things they control is your grid heaters. the other one is for your KSB. for cold starts its the little solinoid on the side of the pump to advance the timing 7 degrees. im not thinkin it will help you. but you can hot wire teh KSB for a lot cheaper then a new sensor

k thats what i thought. There is 2 sensors on the top of the intake. The one looks like a boost sensor i wasnt talking about sensors on the pump.

yeah one sensor is for the heating grids and the other is to control the KSB.

A special thing the VE pump has. if you look on the pump there will be a solenoid about 4"s long and has a small 1/16" hard tube comming out the bottom. for cold weather starts it takes a reading from its sensor on the intake manifold and if cold enough it will supply power to the solenoid to advace the timing 7 degrees. this 7 degrees helps the engine start ane run better. people also run a straight 12v source to this solenoid which is called "hot wireing the KSB" so its advaced 7 all the time.

The non coooled trucks are powered all the time for correct timing and the cooled trucks are activated by power. The non cooled trucks have a slow acting wax filled actuator and can not really be controled by adding or taking away power. ( its not an instant thing ) You also do not want to run the pump with the KSB advanced all the time. It increases case fuel pressure and will cause added wear and heat on the pump. Most guys that have a factory cooled truck just use the hot wired or switched ksb for quick racing or dyno runs.
