Is the truck a cab and chassis frame or a pickup frame? The wheelbase as well as the rear end width will be different and also the frame is shaped different.

Where are you located? What plans do you have for the flat bed.

richie o I did not know this. Any thing I can look for tell whether it was truck frame or cab/chassis frame? I don't have another truck to compare with. If it is a chassis frame will i not beable to use the box?

Ellis93 I am located in Saskatchewan Canada and I am currently trying to sell the deck

If its a cab and chassis it might be the 135 wheel base and the regular pickup is 131. It means the box will have a gap between the cab and box. also the rear axle is a little more narrow then a pickup rear. Just means the wheels will sit in a couple inches further. You should be able to make it work. A chassis frame is pretty much flat after the cab where as a reg frame has a sweep over the rear axle. Someone that actually has one might confirm.

Well I have been taking some measurements of my truck and on the phone with my father has he takes measurement of the box (its at his place 6.5 hours away). i think i have confirmed that my truck is a cab/chassis unit....tomorrows call to the dealer should solidify it.

I measured front of deck just behind cab to center of rear wheel/axle. I have 60"
He measured front of box to center of wheel well and got 55"
I also measured the wheel base and it is 135"

So I'll have a huge 5-6" gap from cab to box. Correct options?
- modify tin
- cut out 4-5" from flat section of frame rail between cab and axle, weld and double frame the section
- move rear axle ahead, but then it won't be centered under the arch of the frame for the axle.

I think option 2 is the route i'll have to go.

It might not be as bad as you think. Put the box on and have a look. There will only be like 3.5 inches of difference. It might let you snake some dual stacks up in the area. :D Cutting the frame or moving the axle = total pain. In the link below the first 2 races is my 89 against a 91 that I am pretty sure was a cab and chassis. The video shows my truck more then his, but you can see its not that bad. ( if I am right ) He is a member here, but has been inactive for atleast a year and I can not remember who it is.

Sweet vid............truck moves along pretty good. What do you have done to it?

Yeah i think i will just mount box and see how i like it. It will be tons of work to move it ahead but not very expensive.

Do you mind measureing the cab box gap on your truck? what does the average dodge have? 2 inch?

Here's what my cab and chassis length truck looks like with a pickup bed on it. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I like it, and it works for me.

Bill, you could have slid that back an inch or 2. It would look better at the cab and the wheel well wouldn't be so noticable.
