Super B special will cool more power. I have 300 at the wheels in my 89 with a 57mm ( super b size ) S300. Its about the limit for that charger. It gets to 1400.

Yeah, Im not sure that the special is right for me either though. I dont want a laggy turbo, nor do I want a ton of heat.

Anyone run a special on a VE motor with a comparable size injector?

Check for sure, but I think the enty level Super B Special is a 62/71/14. You can also go with a 64mm and a 66mm wheel, but I would not go above the 62 model. I would also go with the 14cm (.80 ar ) housing. If you keep your timing on the stockish side, spool should be pretty good. The more you advance the timing, the slower the spool.

Well, whats you budget? Turbos can get pretty pricey.

I think you'll be fine with the special. If it's too laggy for you a cam will help the spoolup.

I would look at Industrial Injection then. They have lots of options for that price and a little under. http://www.industrialinjection.com/id34.html

Check out forced inductions as well for good prices on turbos.
