No Radio or Dome light

Postby collegekid » Sat Jul 30, 2011 2:00 pm

I opened the door last night on the truck and I didnt have a dome light, I figured the bulb went out, but when I turned the truck on, I had no radio...the lights on the radio are on, but theres no clock or sound when I turn it on.....I checked the fuses, and the radio fuse was not blown, but the dome light was, so I replaced it and as I put the fuse in it popped, anyone have ideas are where to start troubleshooting

oh yea, the light over the a/c controls with the switch doesnt work either

Look on the drivers side inner fender next to the grid heater relays for a round connector #12 or #14 wire size that is corroded. It's round and a single wire plugs into it. It corrodes from the inside out until it looses contact, then the radio quits etc.

Bob, I checked all the wires and fusible links by the grid heater, none of them seemed to be split, is there a particular one that needs a light tester put on it

Could I have cut through a wire when I drilled through the floor to install the seats.....it appears that the pink wire leaves the fuse panel and goes to the light above the temp controls, then from there I dont know which way it goes, those of you who have gutted a truck may know... :?

Cigar Lighter is out too

This is the Harness in my 83/93 that runs to the rear dome, cargo light and speakers. Try unplugging it and seeing if you stop blowing fuses. I believe the green plug is the speakers.

Dazed, undid it and it quit blowing fuses, traced the wire back, (had to pull up the carpet) and the wires were worn through right before the split to the seatbelt plug, cut and spliced, everything (including the radio) work properly now, thanks bud

Not a problem. I figured that would be your issue.

hey-Hey!!!,
I am having the same sort of issue; no radio or interior lights. Got power at all the fuses, and none of them are blown. I just hung two new fenders and now the radio doesn't work. I will check those connectors in the pic in case they've got some issues down stream...I am thoroughly stumped on this one.
cheers,

Ya, check under the hood at the fusibles, mine had worn through under the carpet by the driver side seat and shut down power to both, its typically the obvious with these trucks
