Narrower belt?

Postby Diesel » Sun Aug 14, 2011 6:45 am

Is there a 7 rib that would work on my IC 91? Or even 6 rib?

Something is screwy with my AC compressor so it cuts the last rib off my stock 8 rib belts.

Check the belt tensioner. They wear out the plastic bushing inside and twist, shooting the belt out a little on the next pulley, the AC compressor. If the belt is running on the edge of the tensioner pulley, it's junk.

^^ This.

It's not just the tensioner pulley, it's the rubber/spring insert thingy that the tensioner pivots on. A new tensioner assembly is in order. ;)

Most auto parts, Cummins dealer, Dodge dealer, Case /IH dealer. If you go to the Case/IH dealer tell them you need it for a CX 240 excavator, it's the only one that's the correct one for our trucks. ;)

The issue is that I can see the AC pulley has a rib out of place. I'm almost positive it can't be the tensioner. The tensioner was so stiff when installing my new belt.

Should be able to eyeball it from the passenger side, if it looks even slightly out of line with the other pulleys, replace the whole tensioner. I bought my tensioners from Napa, 60-70 bucks.

Anybody make a better tensioner? Maybe one greaseable?

The tensioner is in line. The AC has a sharp rib that sits too far in and cuts a rib off. I'm just going to get a narrower belt in the same length.
