Cooling 5x14 injectors

Postby Ram360man » Tue Oct 18, 2011 11:04 pm

Got my injectors in on Sunday along with some head studs. Trucks running at 50 pounds of boost and can hit 1600 degrees by the time it hits 90. I thought these would run around 1400-1500 at the max with my setup. Something messed up with my truck? Its always seemed to have ran rather hot.

That sounds right to me for a small(ish) turbo, stock cam, stock head. Make sure your valves are adjusted right, air filter is clean, etc..

I'm at 1000 ft above sea level. Maybe that could be it. ;) Its not that high of an egt. Just was hoping for some cooler results. Needed an excuse for water/meth anyways.

I was updating my sig when you posted. I could hit 1700 with the hybrid and stock injectors.

Trucks been hazing when cold ever since the .020 head gasket went on. Head was shaved .010 so its only .010 higher. I'm using 9mm-7mm bushings though and they are really thick. just backed my timing down to stock and the truck wouldn't even start. I'll have to bump it a tooth when i get the chance.

More timing. Less timing you have, the more the exhaust burns in the manifold resulting in higher EGT's. Since you have a non-IC engine, advance that timing more. The bigger bowl of the pistons can take more timing than most 12v's. Adding more timing makes the fuel burn longer resulting in the heat staying in the cylinders longer.

Timing was only 3/4 of the way to the head from stock. I put it all the way now with help from a ratchet strap and some sweet lovin with the 4 pound hammer. Still has some haze but lots better. Boost is now at 45 psi and 1475 egt. Much better but still needs more I think.

0.005 thousandths more valve lift on the exhaust side and slightly better spoolup. Some people say it helps. I honestly don't know. If it does help its probably marginal but every bit counts.

I dont think 5 thousands of lift is enought to warrent the risk of ruining a valve seat.... IMO
