yet another thread about compound turbos

Postby skilletky » Wed Nov 02, 2011 8:54 am

my turbo i got off ebay just showed up today. i was pretty skeptiacal when i was opening the box. with the price i got it for i figured it was going to be a used up junk china knock off holset. but it is actually a borg warner bht3e in awesome shape. my only problem i see is that is has the 27cm turbine housing on it. what i am really looking for is opinions. i dont know if i want to set them up the traditional way with one on top the other or run them like snoot and others on here and stick the lp turbo in the pass. fender well. i am leaning twards the fender well due to easy access and if i need to i can throw my old dp on and run a single turbo. the only good thing i can see about running them with one on top the other is it leaves more room, sorta, under the hood. i need some opinions or advice.

You don't wanna waste your time doing that. Just leave it in the box and I'll come by and pick it up.

If you set them one on top of the other, your small turbo won't move much. You gotta flip it on the manifold, but if you jus add that much straight pipe to your DP it'll still fit. My setup runs right back into my old exhaust, so if I hadn't cut up my DP for it it would still work.

If you put it on the fender, you'll lose your washer fluid reservoir. I don't think anything was in the way of my setup.

ive been pondering on keeping it a single charger, if i do i will sell it to you for what i got in it if you are interested.

thanks for the info taco. thinking of just putting one on top the other. emailed pdr about a price on one of there kits with no turbos, just everything else. forgot what the price was but i know it was over 1500.

Actually, I did lose my factory transmission heat exchanger with my setup. Totally forgot about that.

No biggie to me, since I've got a 'Rag now.

im planning on getting rid of the heat exchanger anyways and going to parker and getting new trans cooler lines made up. are you running a 5 inch dp or 4? i was wondering about clearance and if i will have to do something about the trans dip stick

Mines a 5" to 4". It changes right about where the heat exchanger used to be. There's a pic of it in my thread, but I can't get it on my phone.

I'd have kept 5", but there's no way I could get it past the transfer case.
