I'm doing a bunch of other stuff to it as well, so I figure around March. I'd like to have it together for a semi-local dyno day, but I haven't looked for when they are yet.

I'm running out of excuses to ignore this thing...

For anyone still wondering why you need to bottom tap the headbolt holes with A1 studs:

That's with 1 thread above the nut and the bottom of the washers even with the flange on the factory bolts. That's a lot of tapping.

I cleaned mine with a regular tap and then bottom tapped after. It was a lot easier than bottom tapping on the 1st pass. Cleaned a lot of crap out too.

How's those 5X18s treating you?

I'd skip the full cuts if I was you, you're truck is going to be a smoky pig and no turbo will stop that.

Truck runs really good with them. Not very smokey either, but the pump isnt pushing any fuel yet either.

Im getting them anyways, then gonna try to trade them for a set of 191s probably. 191s, Unsure on plate, and really tight afc and i think it should be fine with that 62mm turbo

I lined my arp studs up like that, but forgot to take pics.

the arps were shorter than the stock bolts.

guess it boils down to what you want to do...bottom tap with the a-1's or mill the pedistals with the arps

Have you tried putting an A1 stud in without tapping? I bet it would go deep enough without tapping. The stock head bolts only go into the block about an inch, and the head bolt holes are quite a bit deeper than that. Last time I had my head off, I dropped one of each length bolt through the head while it was hanging from a hoist. Was quite surprised to see how short the bolts are compared to the depth of the holes in the block.

Those little snouts below the threads are made to bottom out in the hole, so when you're torquing them down the studs won't thread any deeper and mess with the reading.

Pretty cool setup IMHO, and pretty much mandates bottom tapping even if they didn't hit the valve covers.

I doubt I'll get much more "fab" done tonight, so here's some pics of where it's going.

New hole in the hotpipe where the external 'gate will be dumping. I'm not sure what parameters I'm going to use to control it, but it's getting settled in anyways. Hole was cleaned up with a burr after this, but my hands hurt too much to take another pic of it.

Here's the handformed (beat into submission) pipe going to it's new dumpsite:

And here's another cool filterhead I found laying around at work. I really need to stop searching the junkyards and do my damn job. The filters are parallel, and the threads and o-ring allow from 2-30 micron filters. Since it'll be on the output side of a HPLP does anyone see a problem with running 2 6 micron filters? Too fine?

An :edit: to say if you don't bottom tap your headbolt holes you're nuts. I cut my own tap and it only has one beveled thread at the bottom. I couldn't turn it in by hand at all once it was squarely started in the hole. They were hella crusty, and I'd say there was about 4 full turns at the bottom where I was cutting steel.

I chuckled in anticipation of hearing about all the cracks my head had in it. The machine shop guy at Carquest always seemed paranoid about the smallest cracks a head had. I'd never sent one in that he "approved" of.

This time however, there's a crack from the injector hole, behind the seat, and all the way up into the intake port. Not even I am ok with that, as a dropped seat is bad news.

I knew I should have just bought a Hamilton head to begin with, now I'm looking for a reman/use stocker to hold me for a whole.
