Its a distributor style pump, but instead of having a rotating axial piston, its simplest form has 2 opposed radial pistons that are forced towards each other by a cam ring. The cam ring's timing is variable similar to the VE's.

From what I hear they can be modified to push something like 450cc of fuel.

Thats not a leak, its the external lubrication system.

The only Roosamaster DB or JDB pumps I know of making over 500hp are the tractor pulling ones, and they can only last about 40 times going 300ft. The custom part big headed DB4's beat themselves apart and usually seize the head and rotor.

I had never heard of any high HP longevity with the Stanadyne/ Roosamaster (precursor) pumps. Longevity is troublesome with stock 50-60cc.

The VE is much bigger and heftier.

Th old Roosa pump (now a Stanadyne Co.) was intened for small John Deere engines. When Deere became serious about big engines and big HP, they began to use the Nippo pump, which looks like a P-series.

One will not find an old Roosamaster in a John Deere 4320 on the pulling
track.

Im going to college right now for diesel pumps and actually the nippo pump and system had less power than a roosa system on combines on a JD 9600 when they first come out was to have a high hp engine and a low hp engine what happend is the first ones had nippo injection systems which won the contract first and a roosa system came out later the same year and beat them by 75hp but the first motors couldnt take the extra 75hp due to heat and not built for it heres my 2cents
